Hi all,
New to the forum and Cocktail. I have just bought an X10 with a view to testing the product before buying the X40 after Spotify and Deezer are available. One thing I have not been able to find is the ability to instruct the unit to rip a cd to FLac automatically after insertion with id tag also being automatic. I tend to rip cd's one at a time. Is this possible? If not, is it possible on the newer and higher models?
thanks Rod

It is definitely possible to rip to FLAC when ripping on the X10 (I have one).
Go to: Setup > Cd Ripping > Audio Rip Format > FLAC
"Quality" governs the balance between the speed of ripping and the accuracy of the rip - I have this option set to "Excellent" (slower but more accurate). "Bit Rate" only matters if you're ripping to MP3.
When ripping to FLAC, the X10 initially creates a "WAV" file. However, over time, the X10 "converts" each track to the FLAC format automatically; it's not a fault and no user prompt is needed.
More CDs can be ripped without waiting for an existing rip to convert the tracks from WAV to FLAC.
The progress of conversion can be checked by highlighting the "Music DB" on the "home page" and pressing the "info" button on the remote - that should show a summary of what's contained within the Music DB, including the number of unconverted tracks.
Hope this helps.

Hi, thanks for the reply, my question relates to having to tell the unit what to do everytime I insert a cd. My previous ripper could be set up to automatically rip to flac, download id tags and save it to the hdd. The X10instructions don't show how to do this. It is a pain to scroll through everytime.

Hi rodrat,
To the best of my knowledge as a user (not a techie), the kind of automation you refer to isn't offered by the X10. I've just done a brief test and this may or may not help.
After inserting the CD, the track listing appears. If the X10 has FreeDB onboard (the content of this isn't within Nova Fidelity's control) and the CD is within the FreeDB database, the track listing will appear. Otherwise, "track 1" and so on will show.
At this point, there are two options: play or rip. This dual purpose *may* be the reason why there isn't an "auto rip" upon CD insertion.
For ripping, I'm not sure what you mean by scrolling through. To rip, select "menu" on the remote and this will show the options available, including "Ripping All". Selecting that *should* start the ripping process of every track on the CD. Overall, my experience is a typical success rate of 95% for ripping CDs.
If this doesn't answer the question(s) you have, feel free to post again and eventually "Admin" will pick it up and, hopefully, offer a more helpful response.
For what it's worth, I agree the manual isn't always great, something that has been flagged before.
NB: For ripping specific tracks instead of the whole CD, highlight the track(s) wanted, press the RIGHT cursor button on the remote and this will change the highlight colour to red. Once all tracks have been highlighted (red) for ripping, scroll down or up to "OK" and press OK on the remote. Ripping should then start.
