Hi
New to this forum, and I've just bought an X12 but without a hard drive as it was much cheaper to install your own. Now I'm not sure what HD to buy. I was looking at the Western Digital Green, Western Digital Black or the Seagate SSHD(hybrid drive). Which would you recommend of these. The black and Seagate are more expensive and worried they might be 'overkill' and I won't really see the benefit of them.

I have the X10 and is was pre-fitted with a Western Digital Green HD (1Tb). So far, no problems.
As it happens, I did a bit of googling a while ago and it *appears* that failure rates of Seagate drives are a touch higher than WD. However, it's only fair to note I can't recall whether this was a like-for-like or whether it included SSHDs. I would definitely rely on an established supplier for HDs purely because it will be easier (normally) to seek recourse in the event of an early HD failure.

We fit the WD Green drives as standard and find these our requirements (reliable and quiet) just fine. I think going for a WD black probably is a little bit of overkill.
You may consider using a WD Red drive if you are going to be leaving the unit on all the time as these are specifically designed for this.
Thanks Jules

Thanks for the reply. I managed to get a 1tb Black for the same price as a Green so bought that. All seems good at the moment.

I've just ordered a SAMSUNG 850 PRO 2.5" SSD, SATA-III to put in my X12. According to a review of SSD's the Samsung has amazing reliability (and TEN YEARS guarantee). Reliability is PARAMOUNT to me. I once bought a OCZ SSD for my PC and it didn't last two minutes!
