Just got an X35 and installed a Samsung 2TB SSD Drive. Machine detected it and formatted it as detailed in the manual but shows the capacity as 111.8 G. I understand this can be a calculation difference as to how size is worked out but can it be corrected on the X35 and do I get the full 2TB when in use. Colin

If you can, connect the SSD to a P.C. and check the over-provisioning. This can be set quite high, which will increase the lifespan of the SSD but rob you of a lot of useable space. The bare minimum value is about 8%, I have the one in my P.C. set at 10% but higher is better if you aren't going to use all of the SSD's capacity. You can use the Samsung Magician, SSD management utility to check the over-provisioning and update the firmware of the drive etc. semiconductor.samsung.com/consumer-storage/support/tools/

The sizing issue is wether you use binary or decimal numbers to size the disk. Markheting like decimal as it makes the disk larger. The driver in the x12 (lkinux kernel) will have correctly formatted the disk. SSD is a large block of memory configured to look like a disk but it is still memory. Unlike a mechanical disk which has spare cylinders for block failure SSD do not. Writing to an SSD requires the data to be preformated to suit the memory device and this may make ripping slower Reading from multiple streams from an SSD will be faster. X35 is single stream read….. Locating a block and starting a stream will be faster as no mechanical movement.

Samsung set the factory op at just under 8% and you cannot change this. It is not part of the useable capacity. The user op depends on how you are going to use the device. If you are going to often write (rip cds etc.) then think about setting some user op to allow for the write erase cycle which slows the device down If you are going to use the x35 as a player with few changes of music just additions then remain with the factory setting. The initial size should be about 1.8 to 1.9TB not 111G

Thank you for the responses,I took the advice o connect the drive to my computer and then discovered that although I thought I had a 2TB drive it was in fact only a 120GB drive wrongly boxed. A new drive solved the problem and all is OK now,
