Hi I gather that wifi dongles have to be specific to cocktail, but does anyone have advice about using a tp link connection for an X12 eg TP Link: TL-PA 4020P will that work to stream radio/spotify etc many thanks

I have never tried one. However, streaming audio isn't that demanding on bandwidth, especially if you are streaming mp3 quality audio. So it should work just fine. The TP Link: TL-PA4020P is now EOL (End Of Life) and only had a max speed of 100Mbps. Far newer and faster models are available like the TL-PA717 KIT which has a max speed of 1000Mbps. If your WIFI reaches the X12's location, then the Cocktail Audio/Novafidelity WIFI dongle is still widely available. The dongle itself is an Edimax EW-7612UAn which is also EOL (End Of Life) the chipset used in this dongle has a built in Linux driver. So it is plug and play with the X12 etc. Edimax replaced this dongle with the EW-7612UAn V2 but the new V2 version uses a different chipset and does not have an inbuilt Linux driver so it isn't plug and play with Linux. Another option, although more expensive. Would be a WIFI range extender (with an ethernet port of course) if your wifi reaches the X12's location. If you have a modern router then the manufacturer may have a recommended model of WIFI extender/mesh network router. Hope this info helps.

Hi Nick,
I've just installed my X12 and connected it to a TP Link: TL-PA 4020P.
I have lots of other tablets, computers and Yamaha Musicast player and speakers connected to TP Link: TL-PA 4020P's along with one connected to my broadband router. Every device can see every other device perfectly and internet radio works well. I don't have Spotify etc but they will work.
The only problem I encountered was that the X12 did not appear in Windows Explorer on one of my Windows 10 PC's even though I had enabled the X12 Samba Server. Lots of advice on the web to enable the Windows Feature SMB1.O but it was already enabled. The only way I could find to make the X12 appear in Windows Explorer or other file dialogues is to type \\X12 in the address bar or the Windows search box next to the Windows Start button. This assumes you have set the Samba Server name to X12.
I'm about to experiment with MusicBrainz Picard App to resolve the issues with ripped album art and metadata.
Good luck !
Azzo
