Is it possible to format and create a folder with music on an internal hard drive fitted in a caddy attached to a pc before fitting it into the X12?

Well, I've given the X12 a good test run over the weekend. Sound quality from the Mordaunt Short M10

Hungrypanda, I don't believe you can do that. My understanding is the X12 uses Linux and of course unless you have a linux computer, the formating from a Windows or MAC computer would not work. The other way of doing it is converting the music you want to have on the X12 on your computer, then copying the music to either a USB memory stick of external drive, then conecting to the X12 and importing into the X12 DB Music folder. I hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply Lawrence, I received my bare X12 2 days ago and the 4Tb hard drive just turned up today. Will set up tonight.

Hungrypanda, I would be interested to know how you get on fitting your own choice of hard drive. I purchased the 1TB version of the X12. My plan in the future when prices come down is to fit a 1 or 2 TB SDD drive. I'm still old school and like where possible to buy the CD as my back-up copy. Any new CD's I get, I rip in the FLAC format on the X-12. I reckon it takes around 5\6 mins to do each CD.

I have just installed a 4Tb Western Digital Hard Drive and it is formatting right now, Once done I will add a few albums via usb and rip a few Cd's. Once familiar I will fill the hard drive as I want to use the X12 as a player at work

I have spent countless hours ripping cd's on my computer and really just want to move the flac albums as all are tagged perfectly. I have a couple of portable players and that was the whole reason I started ripping Cd's to flac

Hungeypanda, my CD music collection has all been ripped onto the PC into I-Tunes. I did start to copy them over to the X12, but hit problems trying to stream the songs from the X12 to my two Roberts Internet radios (See my prevoius topic in this forum). I found it would only work if I converted the files beforehand to FLAC. I have converted a lot of the albums, but then started to rip a few old CD's and any new ones on the X-12 directly as I felt it was quicker overall. Having around 600 Cd's it's going to take some time to do, but once done, I don't want to do it again anytime soon.

I don't use iTunes at all and only rip to flac and use Tag & Rename to set tags. Have X12 up and running but streaming from my NAS server music keeps buffering at times yet all play flawless on my sonos system. I will have to experiment more. As my wife is using The sonos now the X12 takes a back seat tonight

I've just ordered a NAS drive myself, and my plan later in the year is to buy a Sonos. I'm thinking of the Play 3 version at the moment.

I changed network cable and all is working fine now, there was a kink in the old cable. I'm copying music via network to X12 now.

I have a play 5 in the lounge, a play 1 in the kitchen and a play 1 in the main bedroom and they do sound good. The Sonos music folder is on a nas drive in the dining room. the bridge sits by the router.
