How about the ability for the X12 et al to read SACDs in CD "play" mode. I realise ripping SACDs is more of a problem for all sorts of reasons (see "*" below) but the ability to at least play the SACD layer would be useful. * With an eye on future development, the following may (er, or may not ) be of interest. Last year, there was a change to the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 which formally legalised "format shifting" for personal use (e.g. ripping CDs to FLAC/MP3 et al) so long as you already own a legit original. Although it remains unlawful to hack a protection system, a manufacturer can no longer unreasonably refuse to allow copying (strictly for personal use). On that basis, it *may* be arguable that an individual could ask (Sony, presumably,) for the means to be able to rip a SACD for personal use and a refusal could be open to challenge.

Hi Musicbod
Yes it would be great if the X-Series were able to read Super Audio CDs. Unfortunately I don't think we're going to be the first ones to challenge Sony on that one!
