I purchased the 1TB version of the X12 from Richer Sounds earlier this week. I've been slowly learning all the features and have come across a couple of issues so far. The first one is regarding ejecting the CD draw on the unit. I've tried to open it via both the button on the top of the unit and the remote control but it won't open. It flashes up ejecting CD but nothing happens. This appears to happen after turning the unit on after being unplugged for a period of time and then doing other things on the unit before trying to rip a CD. If I turn the unit off and back on again it starts working again. I'm connected to the Internet via the wireless dongle, and it tells me it's up to date regarding the firmware.
The second issue is regarding copying music from my I-Tunes folder on my PC to the X-12, and then streaming it to my Roberts Radio Stream 83i. I have never had a problem streaming from my PC to the Stream 83i, but it appears the radio will not stream m4a files that have been copied to the X12. It will only play CD's that have been directly ripped in FLAC format on the X12 or files that I have converted on the X12 to FLAC before ripping to the music DB. I'm hoping someone has an answer to this issue as I have 600 plus CD's that I've already ripped to I-Tunes and so I don't want to have to start again on the X12. Just to add I've also tested those songs that I've purchased from I-tunes and they don't play either (unless converted). I have also copied files onto both a USB stick and external hard drive to make sure it was not a formatting issue on one of the devices.
The one plus point is how great the songs I can play on Stream83i sound. There is so much depth compared to how they sound when streamed from my PC. Over the weekend I'm going to connect up the Mordaunt Short speakers I purchased at the sametime to see how well the unit sounds.

Well, I've given the X12 a good test run over the weekend. Sound quality from the Mordaunt Short M10 speakers was excellent. Oddly I did not have the issue with the CD tray at all this time. I ripped another 5 CD's and converted them to FLAC format, and listened to the Internet radio for several hours. Still have not found a solution to the m4a files not streaming to my Roberts Radio from the X12. A friend at work has suggested using Media Monkey to convert the I-Tunes files on the PC, before copying over to the X12. I may give that a try later in the week.

Hi Lawrence,
Thanks for getting in touch.
I'd like to investigate this issue with the M4a files not streaming to your Roberts radio. Would it be possible to send me one of the M4a tracks that you've been unable to stream so that we can do some testing? Please send it to info@sygnifi.co.uk. It may also be worth including a sample of one of the tracks you've purchased from iTunes so we can try that too.
Let us know if the CD eject issue re-occurs.
I'm glad you're pleased with the sound quality from the NOVAFiDELITY X12, we think it's a great product.
Thanks Jules

Thank you for replying to my query. I've sent you two m4a files as requested under two emails. Just to add that I also own a Roberts Radio Stream 93i as well, and the files don't play on that one either. Here's hoping that you can get to the root of my problem.
Regards
Lawrence

I've had the CD draw issue again over the last week, so I've been doing some testing of my own. It would appear that if I plug the unit into the mains then turn on the power switch on the back of the unit and leave it for a couple of minutes before powering up via the remote, then the CD draw will work.
I've also turned on the Samba Server and copied an Album containing M4a files in the I-Tunes library from my Windows 7 PC to the X12. I then imported into the DB. Sadly it would not play when streamed from the X12 to the Roberts Radio. Wondering if there is some free software available to convert the files to FLAC? I would of course only convert a backup copy, so not to break my current I-Tunes songs.

Hi Lawrence I've been carrying out some testing with the files you supplied. I have been able to successfully stream both the MP3 and M4a: 1) From PC to X12 2) From X12 to PC 3) From X30 to X12 4) From X12 to X30 5) From PC to Wifi Speaker In the final test I tried streaming both files from the X12 to a WiFi speaker - I was able to successfully stream the MP3 file (the barry white track) but was unable to stream the M4a track (the Dan Fogelberg one), so it looks like I have been able to reproduce the issue. I have asked the techies to look into this further this and will get back to you. In your post you mention M4a files but one of the tracks you sent me was an Mp3, which I was able to stream fine. Can you confirm whether you are able to stream Mp3s from your X12 to your Roberts Radio? I would like to understand how you are streaming the files from your PC as well - are you using any particular software or have you just shared the folders over the network within the Windows settings? When it comes to converting you files between formats...You can actually do this on the X12 and we've done a video tutorial showing how to do it ( youtu.be/_n7X_l5kHCc). Alternatively if you just google audio file format conversion you will find a number of free programs which will allow you to do this on your PC. We would Here is an interesting thread regarding M4a and FLAC file formats which you might find interesting: www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=66742. I will also have a look into the CD tray issue, thanks for sharing the info about when it seems to occur that's most helpful. Kind regards, Jules

Hi Lawrence,
One final thing while I remember. Can you check the spec of your Roberts Radio to see whether it supports M4a files?
Thanks Jules

Jules Here is a link to the later Roberts Radio I have that the m4a files wont play on. www.robertsradio.co.uk/product_details/STREAM93i.htm Lists ACC files, but not m4a, so maybe it's a non-starter. I still think its odd that they will play the I-Tunes files when streamed directly from the PC? Regards Lawrence

Apologies, but I only noticed your last email about the Roberts Radio specs and I replied during my lunch break at work.
Ok, I can confirm that I can stream MP3 files from the X12 to the radio. When I switch the radio on and go to the media player option, it then has a shared media folder, that once selected shows any open devices on the network. From here I can select my PC or the X12. So it must be using the default Windows settings.
Interesting regarding the video about converting files. I will try that out and let you know how I get on.

Lawrence

I've just converted an album to FLAC on the X12 as per the instructions on the video, and once imported back into the Music DB they played on the Roberts Radio fine.

Hi Lawrence,
I suspect the root of the problem may be that your Roberts Radio is DNLA compliant and not UPnP compliant. DNLA streaming provides a subset of the UPnP streaming functionality in terms of support for file types etc.
Glad you've managed to get it working.
Thanks Jules
