I've just bought a Toshiba portable hard drive and plugged it into a USB port on the x12. Going to Settings/music database/backup I have a message which says -.Now converting, try later. Anybody with any ideas what this means?

Did you get this to work? I don't have the answer I'm afraid, just a similar problem:
I'm using a WD Elements portable USB hard drive to back up the X12. It goes through the back up process, pretty rapidly, then displays 'Success' but when I plug the WD drive into my Mac to check, it's empty.
Any ideas, anyone?
Also is there a 'safe' method to eject a USB hard drive from the X12 or do you just pull it out??
Thanks.

Solved my issue, the WD elements USB drive needed to be reformatted as MS-DOS not MAC OS.

Can anyone tell me why I need to buy an external hard drive for backing up that is bigger than the music that's in my database. I only needed a 500GB drive but had to buy a 1T GB unit, now I need a 2TGB to back up!

Can't answer the question about drive sizes for backups but I'm backing up to a Seagate Central NAS drive and it is taking an age to do, I'm talking days here, could the speed be down to me using an older router/modem and standard Cat5 cables rather than Cat5e?
