Ok, used a different usb pen and firmware updated but now music db shows query. My music is in the my music folder and have tried to re import music db which I am trying for second time but there is no blue progress bar so I think it will fail again. The reason for reverting was to get the use of the web interface which wasn't restored. Also tried to use restore function but the button would not work. I am at a loss how to proceed, just want to use my machine as before with my pc. I am grateful for your continued help and advice.

When the reload completed did you set up the new installation and enable the web brows?
You cannot restore as there is no backup, you must import each music file from my music.

When the instal of the downgrade firmware finished it asked if you wanted to configure the new installation. Did you do this? If you did not shutdown and restart the x35 and configure as required. I.e. Turn off auto update Turn on web browser Etc. Then import one file fro my music to test.

It does not matter you just need to restart the device.
When did you buy this device and did you set it up then because this is what we are doing!

Have you IMPORTED any music to the db? Select file from had and press menu then import. Do not transfer from your pc as all your music is on the hard drive and would return file exist errors. I would suggest you do a factory reset in case the db is corrupt.
If this still fails download r1516 code as this is what you would have had. Unzip the archive (.zip) Rename .pkg to firmware.pkg and continue as before

I got the following instructions from SVC that worked. If you have a backup made from the previous Music DB FW (earlier than FW R16xx) then please follow this procedure to see if it helps. Format your HD in NTFS format – ONLY DO THIS IF YOU ARE SURE YOU HAVE RECENT BACK-UP. Setup>System>Format Storage Follow the attached procedure to recover the older Music DB FW, making sure to rename the file ‘firmware.pkg’. I would recommend R1530, which can be downloaded here - we.tl/t-RyGVbldpbrOnce the FW recovery is complete check Setup>Firmware>Current Version to confirm the older FW is now installed. Format the HD storage again under the recovered FW – Setup>System>Format Storage Attach the backup storage device to restore the old Music DB from back-up – Setup>MusicDB>Restore Music DB. You will need to browse to your back-up storage device and select the back-up folder. Leave the machine uninterrupted until it has finished. Make sure the power supply is stable throughout the above processes to avoid corrupting the FW or Music DB. Once back on the older FW, webinterface should again work but please check the IP address of the X35 – Setup>Network>Network Info. This is the address that will load it. If you are using an old bookmark on your PC, it might have a different IP address.

Great news that you are back running. Bit drastic to reformat but I guess you had an old backup.

I'm glad that you are up and running too. I was hoping that you and imor95 could sort it out without too many problems. Perhaps if your backup before installing R1721 hadn't failed, then it could have been done without formatting and restoring. The old database system uses the music folders and files as part of it's database, laying them out in a specific way and using indexing number prefixes. Problems arise when the device doesn't see what it is expecting to see on the hard drive and "query error" happens. While this could happen for a number of reasons, the fact that the web interface doesn't write the changes that you have made, into the actual files, unless you do a backup or a scan of the database is no doubt a large part of the problem.
With this in mind it's a good idea to backup your files on a regular basis, for your current firmware version, best practice is to have at least two backup copies on separate hard drives.
